Is this your film?

Start with the shape of the cartridge, spool, or envelope. Then check the label. Never open or unroll exposed film to identify it.

  • A twin-chamber plastic cartridge, wider and boxier than 110, usually marked 126 or Instamatic.
  • The film is a single strip running between the two chambers, with a paper backing.
  • Do not open the cartridge to identify the film; it has to be opened in the dark.

Format and chemistry are different things.

126 is the cartridge format. This service develops C-41 color negative film. Older or unidentified stocks need review first; include label information and keep the cartridge closed.

Developing price

This format does not have a single developing price that fits every process, so we do not show a number here. The developing price guide shows what we can publish, and a call gets you an exact answer for your film.

Scans, prints, shipping, and tax are additional where they apply. Prices in the guide are not a checkout quote. For scans added to developing, see the scan guide.

Old film gets a second look

Film that has waited deserves an honest assessment before it goes into chemistry. Here is what we watch for.

  • Old 126 film often has edge damage and dust from the paper backing.
  • Cartridges stored in damp basements may show mold or stuck backing paper; we review before processing.
  • Keep the cartridge closed and do not try to free a stuck spool with force.

What to expect

The age and condition of your film affect the results.

  • Age and storage can affect color, contrast and the number of usable images. Very old film may be fogged or blank, with no usable images.
  • Add scans for digital delivery, prints for the photographs you want on paper, or choose developing only.
  • Film prepared for scanning is returned in cut strips if you choose to keep your negatives.

Then put one on the wall.

Developing reveals the images on your film. Scans make them easy to share, and photographic prints make them something you can hold. You are not charged upfront for a guess at how many frames will turn out; print quantities and charges are based on your actual images.

If you add scans, the files are delivered digitally once your film is developed. Prints can be added at the same time or later; sizes and finishes are chosen in the builder, and the lab confirms the print charge. For 126, both are separate choices from developing.

Turn-around time

Allow a few business days for standard processing of most films. Specialty films take longer. Shipping time is additional. With Mail-in Rush, eligible 35mm and 120 C-41 or black-and-white rolls are developed within 1–2 business days of being received. Shipping time is additional. There is no 1-hour service by mail. Eligible drop-off rush depends on the location, operating hours, cutoff, and capacity, and the lab confirms it before it is guaranteed.

Questions we get

Can every old 126 cartridge be developed as C-41 color film?

No. Include the stock name or processing instructions from the label. If you are unsure, call us; we will confirm options before processing.

What if my 126 film is black-and-white?

Choose our separate 126 black-and-white service. If the label is missing or unreadable, tell us rather than guessing the chemistry.

Why does 126 film have to be cut for scanning?

After developing, we cut the film into strips for scanning and sleeving.

Do I have to order scans?

No. You can choose developing only, developing with prints, or add scans. Prints are billed after processing for the number actually made.

Can I mail my film, or do I have to come in?

Both work. Start your order online first, then mail your film to the Quakertown lab at 308 W Broad St or drop it at either store: Quakertown, PA or Flemington, NJ. Include your order number with mailed film.

Is the price guide a final quote?

No. The developing chart and scan guide are guides, not a checkout quote. Your exact price depends on the format, process, and options you choose when you order. Scans, prints, shipping, and tax are additional where they apply.
