For 35mm, 120 and 4x5 negatives. Prints up to 16x20. Going bigger takes a special reservation and some setup, so ask when you book.
Chemistry
We mix it and clean up. Paper chemistry is included. D-76 for film is charged by the roll, or bring your own film chemistry at no charge. We dispose of used chemistry for you.
Tanks and reels
Use ours, buy some from us or bring your own.
Paper and toner
Buy them from us or bring your own. Fiber paper and toning are allowed.
How it works
Book a session
Darkroom time is by appointment, generally during store hours. Call the shop or send a note and we'll get you on the calendar.
Get your bearings
Before you start, we'll show you where everything is in our darkroom. It's a quick tour, not a lesson.
The station is yours for your session, and someone from the shop is on site the whole time.
Know your way around a darkroom
Our darkroom is for people who already know how to work in one. You should be comfortable on your own with an enlarger, test strips and the trays.
Rusty? Book a refresher. It's a private session with us, and afterward you can keep printing at the hourly rate with no minimum. If it's been more than 5 years since you last printed, we'll ask you to take one first. Never printed at all? Call us and we'll point you the right way.
Good to know
- Sessions have a 2 hour minimum.
- We have four stations, so up to four people can work at once. Each person pays the hourly rate.
- Pay at the counter when you finish. No deposit.
- Free fixer recycling: bring us your used fixer, even if you're not renting.
- Need to cancel? Give us at least 24 hours' notice. Repeated no-shows lose the ability to rent the darkroom.
- Everyone signs a waiver. You must be 18 or older to rent. 16 or 17? Call us first.
Finding the darkroom
26 Main St, Flemington, NJ 08822. Our door isn't on Main Street. Look for the Black Lab Imaging sign out front and follow it down the alley. Directions and parking are on the Flemington page.
